Give me a "C"...Give me an "A"...Give me an "N"

Well, you know the rest. It spells CANDY! Blog candy, that is! To show my appreciation to those of you great folks that have taken the time to visit A Stampin' Good Time, I am offering some really yummy treats. Let's see... there is a 6 x 6 pad of BG Infuse, the Big Paisley stamp from Lizzie Anne's Simply Singles, 5 packs of clear stamps from Mike's, a Heidi Swapp paper distresser, some Prima Mini Me's, various Primas in SU Stampin' Store containers and a couple of yards of my most favorite ribbon from May Arts. How do you get an opportunity for such a scrumptious buffet of paper pleasing goodies? Well, post the answers to the following fun questions on the comment section of this post and I will randomly choose a winner this Friday, August 10th. Simple as eating pie (or candy, in this instance.)
My local stampin' and scrappin' buddies often joke about our "creative accounting" when it comes to making supply purchases and dealing with our DH. One trick is the "tools don't count" method (I actually began a discussion on this on a forum at SCS a while back.) It seems when our DH embark on a home improvement project, they always seem to fall short of having some tool or another that they need to complete the job. Of course, when figuring out the cost of the total project, they do not seem to take the cost of the tool in to account because it is not a consumable product AND they might (might being the important word) use it again someday, all the while "collecting" these tools in the garage, work shed, etc. So let's look at the world of paper crafting, we can justify many purchases in the same way. Yes, I have a trimmer but this trimmer cuts straighter or scalloped or is easier to transport- you get the picture. Scissors, stamps, mats, knives, punches, rulers- the list can go on and on. So here's the deal, our DH are mostly intelligent men. Eventually, they will catch on. So if you would, please share with me either a "creative accounting" idea of your own, a tall tale that you have told your DH/SO about something you have purchased or some similar story. Now if you do not have a story like this to tell, that's okay, you can just leave the comment "I am a paper crafting goddess!" It is always good practice to say positive things about ourselves! DH is saying I need more rest so for now, Take care!

I always show my hubby everything I get cuz I am too excited to keep it secret! If he starts getting the worried look or says maybe I should slow down...I ever so politly remind him that I didn't complain when he was going to school for 8 years to get his degrees and I didn't complain about the loans!...I remind him...just like he always said to me...it's an investment! This is what I study...just cuz I get to do it in my pj's at home doesn't mean nothin'!! :)

For me when my DH asks questions about my stamping stuff I always tell him, "Oh, that? I've had that forever. Can't even remember where or when I got it." It always works and it also means no arguments over how much I have spent. :)
Thanks!

I just tell him to leave the store while I pay. He never asks nor does he ever see the bills-I am the accountant and what he doesnt know, wont kill him

My OH doesn't mind my spending, but that's probably cos he doesn't know how much I spend!!

The excuses I use for parcels arriving are "I've won another prize!!" and "Somebody's sent me a RAK!!"

Think they're wearing a bit thin now though, LOL!!

No DH to answer too!!! Love it! I have to answer to myself...and sometimes that can be harder. BUT, I love my craft supplies and tools and can't live without them! So, as Beth says to say...I am a paper crafting goddess. :)

Usually I don't have problems since my DH's two hobbies (woodworking and photography) add up way faster than papercrafting. But...in a time of watching pennies, (and feeling that I just have to have more stuff), I either keep my purchase in the car until he is in the shower and then file it away, or use the excuse that the item is going into extinction (or retirement). I don't do it very often, but sometimes I just can't pass up a bargain!

Several years ago, I discovered scrapbooking. Shortly thereafter, I discovered Stampin' Up. After the first year of scrapbooking, DH was balaqncing the books and he noticed how much was being spent and asked "These are just the start-up costs, right?" I happily agreed, and was able to coast on that excuse for my early years of stamping as well!

I'm so lucky, my hubby is so supportive of my scrapbooking/cardmaking. He will even shop and get me things from time to time. Love your blog.

I just encourage my husband to have hobbies, too, and to spend money on himself occasionally ... especially right before a new catalog comes out :-)

My DH doesn't really have a clue as I pay the bills etc. But he does know I'm pretty levelheaded and won't spend what we don't have (ok, most of the time!) He knows that I love to stamp and create! If he shakes his head at the mail I get I just remind him of whatever the last tool or computer part he bought and ask if he's actually used it yet! LOL!

Apparently, "I am a paper crafting goddess", because I have no such story to tell. DH and I each have our own budget for spending cash. His mostly goes to golf or sporting events or golf LOL. Mine mostly goes to paper crafting. I actually do a much better job with my budget than he does, so there are never any complaints.

My Dh has no idea. Packages appear all the time and he just shakes his head. Probably because we are in the middle of a huge home improvement project and you have no idea how many tools my hubby had to have to finish that project or this project. Our garage is full of them. My tools are at least small and I hide them well!

How fun! My dh has not asked me where I get all my stuff, so I haven't offered any explanation. I would probably tell him that I just got what I needed. Which would totally be the truth, don't you think? I don't go overboard either, do have to watch the budget. Can you believe this, I have not gotten anything from the new SU catalog yet.

Hi! What a great question! I have a fabulous hubby - he understands my need to rubberstamp and rarely grumbles about the money I spend. Now, that being said, he probably has no idea exactly how much money I spend...hehehe. Thanks for a chance at a fabulous bunch of goodies!!

i don't really show my DH what i buy... by the time he realized my stamp pile has grown, it's not "new" anymore... heehee :)

I disclose everything I get but I leave out the $ part. Heehehe, what a great blog you have.

I alway *fess up* before the day is up. I buy something and spend the rest of the time making up things in my head, that I will tell him or not tell him the rest of the day. At the end of the day I am so exhausted and worn out, I figure its just easier to tell him then what I have put myself through the whole day. I figure I can only *die* once. LOL

As far as my maritual status is "Single" I don't have any problem with any guy about spending money! But it was fun reading other people comments!!
You have a great blog Beth, and "I'm a paper crafting goddess"!!!! LoL! Thanks for sharing the yummy candy!

My DH never says anything about my purchases. Granted he probably doesn't have a clue how much I spend. LOL When I first started this hobby, not long after we moved, he said, "I'm glad you have friends." If he ever says anything I'll just remind him of that.

Hey Beth!! A few weeks ago, I went out with some friends of mine for a scrapbooking crop and then we all went scrapbook shopping afterwards. Well, amoung other things, I came home with a new cartridge for my Cricut. Before Jason could say anything, I said, "it is my reward for potty training Payton." He didn't say any more about it!!!

So we are showing off our home to the in-laws who have never seen it before. We go into the guest room/scrap space and my DH sees a target cube that I didn't have last time he was in the room. (He doesn't step into the sanctum very often...) He says, "You've been shopping!?!?" I reply, " I have had that for months and I bought it on clearance, hush!" And he does. Good for him!

If I don't want my husband to know that I purchased something I tell him I won it as blog candy!!! Works for me.

I tell my husband I "need" a certain set to complete a project. For example, I need a set that I can use to make Valentines for my kids' classes at school. And think about all the money I'll save over the years by making my kids' valentines every year. Well--it doesn't really work that way because of course eventually I'll want a new set to make different Valentine's with. I'm sure you understand. :)

Oh heavens, my dh is a photographer, so I am always justified that all of his "toys" are way more expensive than mine. :) That makes it easy to bargain with him! hee hee heeeee

Linda SS said...

He only will say something if it's too much at one time. I just spread the spending out over the month rather than one big outing. This way he doesn't really notice.

I am a very lucky crafting goddess! I have a DH who supports my addiction to stamping/crafting and even goes to Micheal's with me so I can get 2 items at a 40% discount!
Now, there are times when he says enough is enough and then I apply the rule "if it's not a stamp it doesn't count." Arguing that it can be used for other purposes!
I am also lucky in that my hubby's job takes him out of town for several weeks at a time...so I save my "Big" Spending sprees for then!

I don't generally show my husband my crafting purchases, mainly because he isn't a bit interested. He doesn't monitor my spending because I don't ever go outside our budget. I mostly buy supplies as needed, and it works well that way.

Anonymous said...

This post is hilarious!!! My hubby knows better than to complain, he buys waaay more toys than I do. Besides, my mom has a HUGE craft room & surplus supplies. I just go over there and use what I want:)

I usually tell him that everithing is paid by what I get from selling SU. This is true almost all the time! (notice I said almost!!!)
Thanks!

My fiance doesn't mind me spending money on something I enjoy. Infact, when he thinks I'm bored (who can get bored when there is so much to scrap or alter?!) he gives me money to go to the scrapbook store.

Oh, and "I'm still a paper crafting goddess"! LOL

Well, DH just generally lets me spend what I want (I think he would fear my wrath if he said "no"!). Besides, he has a sports car and a motor bike, so I have years of guilt-free spending ahead of me! (BTW, to his credit, he regularly purchases me SU gift certificates from my demo...she loves it when he calls!)

Hi there and thank you for visiting my blog! You have a fab one here btw!!
My hubby is quite supportive of what I buy, but then I only buy doodlebug etc... I can't get Stamping Up stuff here, or much of the other scrummy stash you all get over there!!! Can I come live with you for a bit???

I normally don't have a problem but there are times when I do overspend and then I just get the orders send to my work so I can take it home and sneak it into the house. Then if he asks I can say that I have had that for a long time. This works for me.

I guess my way is probably the easiest so don't think it should count, I don't have a DH so I don't have to justify, but remember when a friend of mine had just gotten married she would buy stuff in the fall and then wrap it and put it under the tree and say it put that it was from her parents. We always got a laugh out of that, think it only lasted 2 years though.

I guess better late than never....I have this
GREAT friend that ...we do our own brand of creative accounting. ... She has a direct sales business and I have a direct sales business that we have to order from and DH knows about that...so I order for her and she orders for me...I tell my husband that it is her order and he figures I will get the money back...and vice versa....We also buy food for each other that our hubbies don't particularly mind about and again pay each other back in product here and there.DH's frown at times and raise an eyebrow or two...but so far it's working :0)
